Jolly Phonics

Jolly Phonics

Jolly Phonics uses a synthetic phonics method of teaching letter sounds that is both fun and multi-sensory. Each of the 42 sounds in the English language are systematically taught, not just the alphabet. These sounds are divided into 7 groups. We shall learn the first three and part of four in Junior Infants.

 1- s, a, t, i, p, n

2-c k, e, h, r, m, d

3-g, o, u, l, f, b

4-ai, sh

The letters have not been introduced in alphabetical order. The first group (s, a, t, i, p, n) has been chosen because they make more simple three-letter words than any other six letters. The letters b and d are introduced in different groups to avoid confusion.

As your child learns a sound it will be included in their wordbox for home practice. Please ensure that they are pronouncing the sound correctly. If you have any queries in this regard, please do not hesitate in contacting me Smile Once group one has been completed encourage your child to create or decode simple CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant) eg sat, pin , tan....
